At Bay Ridge, intellectual excellence—the abilities to read, write, think, research, listen, compute, and solve problems—are revered as much as any other intelligence. Here, there is no shame in being “smart.” We believe that all of our students are “smart,” if they develop and use the gifts and talents given to them by the Creator.
Bay Ridge graduates, through Ability-based Curricula (which requires them to “do something” with what they learn), will demonstrate the following essential competencies needed for success in the 21st Century:
Communication - Making connections (through reading, writing, technology, speaking, and listening) that create meaning between themselves and others.
Analysis - Thinking clearly and critically.
Problem Solving - Applying various forms of problem-solving strategies to mathematical, scientific, human, and other complex challenges and issues.
Valuing - Recognizing different value systems while holding strongly to their own ethics.
Social Interaction - Knowing how to get things done in committees, task forces, teams, and groups.
Developing a Global Perspective - Acting with the understanding of the interdependence of global life.
Effective Leadership - Being involved with and responsible to themselves and their families, organizations, and communities.
Aesthetic Engagement - Engaging with various forms of art and in artistic processes.

Bay Ridge “Student Scholars” will complete Associate of Arts or Science degrees, in preparation for transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Transfer agreements are currently being forged with major universities and colleges in our region.
Setting Bay Ridge apart from other educational institutions, this emphasis on the transformation of students into “Scholars” reflects the College’s mission—helping all students achieve at levels that will enable them to “Learn, Live and Lead.”
